Autism Assessments
During a free consultation with a Clinical Psychologist, we will speak to you about your requirements and if appropriate consider differential diagnosis with you.
We ensure that we adhere to all recommendations proposed by NICE guidelines in terms of what constitutes a ‘gold standard’ and high-quality assessment, and as such, our findings are seen as valid and accepted by school, GP, Local Authority, student support services, NHS trusts etc.
Our Process
Consultation Stage
We will arrange an initial consultation with you/a parent/carer, depending on whether this is for an adult or child assessment. This consultation is completed by telephone as opposed to in clinic, and there is no charge for this.
We will then consider this and discuss with you whether assessment seems clinically indicated, and if so, we will send a detailed cost estimate to you by email so that all assessments and costs are transparent.
Assessment Stage
The assessments typically involve the following.
Developmental history with a parent/carer
ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2)
Speech and language therapy assessment (for child assessments)
School observation and reported information from school (for child assessments)
We will then formulate these findings as a multidisciplinary team (e.g., with Psychology, Psychiatry and speech and language therapy for child assessments), then complete a comprehensive report (highlighting the outcome, strengths, areas of need, and recommendations) and feedback this information to you.
Cognitive Assessment
We do recommend that a cognitive assessment is completed if a) recommendations are required to support your child's education (e.g., to consider additional time in examinations etc.), and/or b) if this assessment is required as part of a differential diagnosis as to what may better explain things.
There is an additional cost of this assessment, and this can be discussed with you during the initial consultation.

As a service, we do not offer stand alone ADHD assessments. However, due to the multidisciplinary nature of our team, a joint autism and ADHD assessment can be conducted as part of our children and young peoples pathway in conjunction with North East Child Psychiatry.
For adults, if our comprehensive assessment process indicates you may have ADHD, we can discuss your needs and direct you to suitably qualified and accredited providers.

Whilst the exact cost of the assessment will depend on which components are required to reach a conclusion in relation to diagnosis, together with consideration of what assessments may have been completed before, adult assessments typically cost approximately £1800 - £2250 and child assessments typically cost approximately £2425.

Unfortunately, we do not offer assessments under the Right to Choose policy. We do this to ensure all of our autism assessments are individualised and completed in a timely manner.Item description
-
We only invoice for whatever clinical activity has been completed that month, which naturally spreads the cost of the assessment over time, and we can agree a timeframe that the assessment is paid over if that is also helpful.
We allow up to 30 days for invoices to be paid.
